Haven't blogged in weeks and weeks, so while I have alot of things to say, I just want to begin with the apparent irony of the righteous indignation shown by PNG proponents of the ghastly Pacific Marine Industrial Zone which will swallow up the north coast, the offshore waters, the tranquility of Madang and, not least, the rest of the Pacific tuna in a massive grab for short-term benefits---indignation that the rest of the tuna community and European Community, for one, should ever doubt the correctness of this project because it will bring jobs jobs jobs [and jobs are the first indicator of growth---except of course that all the jobs will go to Chinese workers, and those left to PNGuineans will provide less than living wage and effectively impoverish them]...when, consider this, the national government turns on its heels to look across the province and shake a finger at Raikos and Madang town for its resistence to Ramu Nickel: How can you deny the greater good, the govt keeps telling us, for the sake of customary land rights and environmental security. Really. How very selfish the grassroots have been. We need to excerpt their own smarmy righteousness to defend the north coast Madang against the godawful PMIZ.
Finally, I offer a hilarious link from the onion on China: https://www.theonion.com/atlas/china/
