Last week we witnessed the launching of new microfinance measures in Riwo, Madang, introduced by the Amele Community Development Association, Sepik Savings and Loan, and the Asian Development Bank.
The work this ACDF has been doing all over Amele, and now the north coast, following the work SSL has done in the Sepik, Morobe and Madang, is really heroic.
These are the unsung (and largely unpaid) leaders of grassroots development today.
Women of the Meri Help Meri Foundation, who use their own market money to introduce savings associations to remote women in other provinces, other areas, and guide them in raising pigs and poultry projects, sewing cooperatives, and gazillions of other small enterprises---these are the peple who deserve LOGOHU and STAR OF MELANESIA HONOURS.
These are people who do not make money from their political efforts, they are the most committed and sincere community activists we have.
This is a shout out to some of them:
LUCY KIKII BUCK, FOUNDER AND DIRECTOR OF MERI HELP MERI
BESSIE KAMAS, PAIS SALLE,
and the scores of SEPIK SAVINGS AND LOAN representatives whom we met on Fridau.
